The renewable energy industry continues to evolve and develop, and we see the pulse of the photovoltaic (PV) sector coming alive at international trade shows. At the current KEY Energy Expo in Rimini, Italy, Chinese PV manufacturing giant Trinasolar has taken centre stage with their announcement of additional new developments regarding the introduction of new products: the "Vertex S+ G3" and "Vertex N G3" modules. These modules are projected to be commercially available in the European market by the second half of 2026 and represent a huge advancement for residential and utility-scale solar applications by utilizing Trinasolar's newest n-type i-TOPCon Ultra cell technology.

Two Series, Tailored Applications

Trinasolar's latest announcement strategically targets two distinct market segments with specialized product lines.

1. Vertex S+ G3: Power for Rooftops (Residential & C&I)

Trinasolar designed the "Vertex S+ G3" to be used in residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) rooftop applications. The series consists of three different module variants, with each one intended for a different type of customer. All three modules measure 1672 x 1134 x 30 mm so that they can be handled easily and will fit onto traditional rooftop mounting systems. The modules include a 30-year power output warranty and 25-year product warranty, which demonstrates Trinasolar's confidence in the long-term performance of all their products.

High-Performance Standard (NEG9RP.28Z): The panel labeled High-Performance Standard (NEG9RP.28Z) offers the highest level of performance within this series, with a maximum capacity of up to 485 watts, a 24.3% efficiency rating, and a very low degradation rate of only 0.35% each year, which will provide a high level of stable energy generation for its lifespan.

Aesthetic Choice Full Black (NEG9R.25Z): The growing demand for attractive solar systems has created the need for visually pleasing solar panels in residential areas. The "Full Black" product line includes black panels, reaching production output levels up to 480 watts and with an efficiency of 24%. These all-black solar panels are a beautiful addition to any home without sacrificing performance.

Durability (Specialist Shield NED9R.28Z): The "Shield" line is geared towards the most challenging/harsh weather conditions. It has the same peak power output of 485 watts, but due to enhanced mechanical strength/stability/hail resistance, the "Shield" line is a more dependable option for homeowners living in challenging climates.

2. Vertex N G3: Engineered for Scale (Utility & Large Projects)
For large-scale ground-mounted solar farms and expansive commercial roofs, Trinasolar introduced the "Vertex N G3" series. The modules are architecturally designed to reduce cost in an overall photovoltaic system while providing higher financial returns through both operational and financial performance enhancements. Both of the models within this specification have the same physical configuration; they are both bifacial glass-to-glass modules that have the capability of generating energy from the front and rear sides of the photovoltaic module.

The High-Power Flagship (NEG21C.20Q): This module is a true powerhouse, delivering up to 760 watts of peak power with a remarkable 24.5% efficiency. Based on large-format G12-210 mm wafers, its low-voltage design enables longer string lengths. According to Trinasolar, this architecture can reduce balance of system (BOS) costs and the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) by an estimated two to six percent. It achieves a bifaciality factor of up to 85%, meaning its rear side can generate up to 85% of the power of the front side, capturing significant energy from ground-reflected light.

The Tracker-Optimized Model (NEG19RC.20Q): Specifically optimized for single-axis (1P) tracker systems, this module offers up to 670 watts of power and a leading-edge efficiency of 24.8%. Its low-voltage architecture also reduces BOS and LCOE, in this case by one to five percent, while maintaining excellent system compatibility. Both models in this series also benefit from a 30-year performance warranty.

The Core Technology: n-type i-TOPCon Ultra

At the heart of both new series lies Trinasolar's advanced n-type i-TOPCon Ultra technology. Without diving into overly complex physics, this technology represents a significant leap forward from traditional p-type solar cells.

In simple terms, "n-type" cells are more resistant to light-induced degradation (LID), a common issue in older solar panels where power output drops slightly during the first hours of sun exposure. The "TOPCon" (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) structure is a sophisticated way to reduce energy loss at the cell's contact points. It acts like a high-tech passivation layer that allows more electrons to reach the electrical contacts and contribute to power generation. The "Ultra" designation signifies a further optimization of this process, resulting in the exceptional efficiency and performance numbers seen in these new modules.

Market Impact and Future Outlook

In addition to a product specification milestone of adding a 760-watt photovoltaic module from a major manufacturer such as Trinasolar, the introduction of this product category illustrates a clear direction for the industry relative to the need to reduce cost for the production of solar energy by continuously striving to achieve higher power and efficiency levels. For installers located in Europe along with project developers, having access to these modules by the latter part of 2025 will allow them to design photovoltaic systems with a greater ability to produce higher amounts of energy from within the same area of land which is going to be a key factor to consider in both residential rooftops where there is limited space available and large solar farm applications where there are large amounts of land available for maximum possible energy yield of solar energy.

Trinasolar is providing clear options for upgrading across the entire market by offering customized solutions for rooftops (Vertex S+ G3) and ground mounts (Vertex N G3). With the combination of high output/wattage, high efficiency, bifacial capabilities, and low degradation rates, this series is set up to play a key role in supporting the energy transition of Europe.
